From the places we've been, to the food we've eaten.

Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville (Lausanne)

Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville Crissier (Hotel de Ville because the name is just too long) is located in Lausanne, Switzerland.  If you want to have a nice meal in Switzerland, this is it.

Restaurant de l’Hôtel de Ville Crissier:

I’ll be honest, the food I ate in Switzerland wasn’t good until my meal at Hotel de Ville.  My culinary goal for visiting any country is to eat at one high-end restaurant.  I took a day trip out to Lausanne and after visiting the Olympic museum, I ended my day with a bangin’ meal.

Lunch tasting menu:

I came here for lunch and of course, I opted for the tasting menu.  They also have a la carte menu and an extensive wine list, but I don’t know shit about wine.   Vincent Mattera, the maître d’ and his staff spoke very good English, so you don’t have to worry about communication.  My favorite was the morels dish; this mushroom tastes like beef yo!

Menu dégustation continues…

Course after course of delicious food, my palate was in shock.  After the meal comes a big cheese cart (sorry, no pic) and none of that pasteurized bullshit we get back in the States.  I’ve had the chance to experience one of the best menu dégustation at any restaurant.

At the time of my visit, Benoît Violier was the owner and head chef of Hotel de Ville.  Unfortunately, he took his own life in January 2016.  I was lucky enough to meet him when touring the kitchen.  Rest in peace, Chef Benoît Violier.  No need to worry, the restaurant is still kicking ass per reviews online.  The meal without any wine was around $380 USD.

Akashi (NYC)

Akashi is a fairly new sushi-ya in New York City, which opened up in October.   The restaurant is located in the West Village and it’s run by the head chef, Yoichi Akashi, who was previously at Yasuda and Nakazawa.

12 Days in Switzerland (May 2015)

Prior to this trip, I never set foot in Europe.  I’ve seen a shitload of awesome pictures online and I wanted to travel to Switzerland, so why the hell not?  Let’s go!
